3 May 2016 – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is taking things up a notch: the Amarok is getting a bigger ‘heart’ and highlighting its performance potential, thanks to the latest generation of Volkswagen V6 engines. Drivers of the Amarok can look forward in future to the one litre of additional displacement offered by the 3.0-litre engine. Its top-of-the-line engine delivers 550Nm of torque and has an output of 165 kW / 224 PS.

Robust and reliable: the new agile V6 diesel engine for the Amarok meets the customer requirement for high torque at low engine speeds. The powerful top-of-the-line six-cylinder engine produces its maximum torque at only 1,500 rpm. At 550Nm, this maximum torque is also 130Nm higher than in the previous model. The Amarok is thus able to deliver sufficient propulsive power and torque performance in any situation.

The Amaroks driving performance and handling is improved further with a Servotronic steering system now available. New 17-inch brake discs on the front axle and 16-inch discs at the rear ensure that the powerful ute always comes to a stop quickly and safely. The Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, which has won multiple awards, is also included as standard.

The powerful impression the Amarok makes is underscored by a more athletic-looking front end and an all-new dashboard. Together with new ergonomic seats, they lend the vehicle a more sophisticated and valuable appearance. In addition, the model’s design has the current Volkswagen DNA written all over it. With a length of 5.25 metres and a width of 2.23 metres (mirrors included), the Amarok delivers everything one would expect from a classic ute.

The Amarok Aventura – a unique launch model will be available for a limited time only, featuring 20” alloy wheels, rear-view camera, bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED licence plate lighting and LED-illuminated side sills under the doors.

John Frear, head of Commercial Vehicles for Volkswagen New Zealand commented; “We are hugely excited by the addition of the V6 engine to the already powerful Amarok range.  This will sit nicely alongside the existing 2.0L 420Nm powertrain which will remain a core part of the Amarok line-up.  Now we’ve seen the early images of the facelift Amarok, including significant interior layout updates, I really believe this takes NZ’s most aspirational ute to the next level.  We’re sure this offers something new for loyal Volkswagen customers as well as plenty to attract those new to the brand when the first vehicles hit showroom floors at the end of this year.”

Pricing and specification for New Zealand will be released over the coming months and Volkswagen NZ are expecting to have this updated Amarok in showrooms from the end of the year. Numbers will be limited and with anticipation already high, as a thank you to existing owners we will give preference to existing Amarok customers.

It started at a young age with bedroom posters, the Countach of course. This slowly grew into a super car die-cast model collection, fifty five 1:18 models at the last count. At which point it had almost taken full control, the incurable Mad Car Disease ran deep though my veins all the way to the bone. And things for my loved ones just got worse as the cars where now being bought at 1:1 scale, after a BMW, HSV, and couple of Audi's, the disease reached my brain, pushing me over the edge and down the rabbits hole into the world of the bedroom poster.
