The updated Lexus IS compact sports sedan has a bolder more dynamic style with impressive performance and comprehensive safety and luxury specification for 2017.

New headlights, bumper, air dam and spindle grille give the IS a more aggressive look, while in the cabin refined seating, door trims and dashboard enhance the ambiance.

“The IS range is a compelling proposition,” said Lexus New Zealand’s Senior General Manager, Paul Carroll. “It includes both driving performance and luxurious comfort together with the option of a powerful and very smooth hybrid powertrain.”

The Lexus Safety System + package is now standard on all IS models with its Pre-Crash Safety system, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Sway Warning System and Automatic High Beam.

Mr Carroll said the standard safety and premium features are unmatched for a compact luxury sports sedan. “Lexus doesn’t have a long list of optional extras you have to add to get the car you ultimately want to own. These features come as standard.”

Introduced early last year at the Beijing Auto Show and having just passed the one million sales milestone globally in August 2016, the IS range is the most driver-centric volume production model in the Lexus range.

The range remains unchanged with three IS 200t models, two IS 300h choices with its 2.5 litre hybrid powertrain and the range topping IS 350 featuring a 3.5 litre V6.

There is a strong blend of performance and economy, especially from the two litre, four cylinder, 180 kWs turbocharged IS 200t models.

All models now have Bi-beam LED headlights with the F Sport and Limited models getting three lens units. The aggressive look is enhanced at the rear, with all petrol engined models gaining angular exhaust ends.

The suspension spring rate of the coil springs and upper supports has been optimised, along with the damping characteristics of the shock absorbers to improve ride comfort.

In the cabin, the central multimedia display screen has increased in size from 7 to 10.3 inches and an enter button has been added to the side of the Remote Touch Interface on the centre console, making the system easier to use. The audio system in entry and F Sport models now has 10 speakers.

Attention to detail with refined meters enhances the sporty feel of the IS cockpit. The steering wheel controls introduced on the RC coupe are now fitted to the IS sedan. A sophisticated card key is now standard on all models.

The trim for the gear shift knob and door handles has been changed to a satin-like finish. There are new interior colours introduced for entry and Limited models, Chateau and Nuance Black. Laser Cut Wood ornamentation is now used in the cabin of the Limited models and Graphite Black has been added as an exterior colour option for all models.

The spacious, useable cabin has superbly leather accented upholstery and comfortable seats with intricate stitching.

All IS sports sedans come with a four year unlimited kilometres warranty and a six year corrosion perforation warranty.

The 2017 Lexus IS will continue with an unchanged lineup, pricing below:

  • IS 200t $74,300

It started at a young age with bedroom posters, the Countach of course. This slowly grew into a super car die-cast model collection, fifty five 1:18 models at the last count. At which point it had almost taken full control, the incurable Mad Car Disease ran deep though my veins all the way to the bone. And things for my loved ones just got worse as the cars where now being bought at 1:1 scale, after a BMW, HSV, and couple of Audi's, the disease reached my brain, pushing me over the edge and down the rabbits hole into the world of the bedroom poster.
